Obverse: Persian legend. Couplet with the Ruler's name and titles (from bottom to top: [Taban Mihr wa Mah Mubarak / Sikkah Az]iz al-Din / [Shah] ‘Alam [Ghazi Badshah] = Shining (like) the sun and the moon (is the) auspicious coin (of) Aziz ud-Din Shah 'Alam, Warrior against the infidels, Emperor).
Reverse: Persian legend. Mint name with epithet and Julus formula (from bottom to top: [xxx julus] maimanat manus / [zarb Dar-ul-Khi]lafat Shahjahna[bad / Bagadkut] = Struck at the Seat of the Caliphate, Shahjahanabad Bagalkot, xxx reign associated with prosperity). Date ([18]19) in the central line at left.
Note: Maratha mint until 1818 when it was taken by General Munro and absorbed in the Bijapur division of the Bombay Presidency. The Bagalkot mint continued working after the British conquest of the Maratha territory and finally closed some fifteen years later.
